Mountain Top sits at around four hundred and seventy metres on the ridge of St Thomas, with an observation deck looking straight down on Magens Bay and out over the British Virgin Islands beyond. The building holds a shop and a bar that claims to have invented the banana daiquiri in 1953, which is the other reason tour buses stop. On clear days the view runs a very long way.
What you actually see
- The Magens Bay view - the bay laid out directly below the deck.
- The island panorama - the British Virgin Islands visible across the water.
- The daiquiri counter - the bar with its 1953 claim.
- The ridge position - around four hundred and seventy metres up.
When to go
December to April is the dry season with the clearest air. Cruise ship days fill the site through the middle of the day. Mornings are quietest.
Honest expectations
It is a tour bus stop and the shop is the main business. Haze often cuts the long view. An hour covers it completely.
Nearby
Magens Bay is below, and Drake's Seat is east.
