EntryFree

West Harbour Bluff at the southwestern tip of Providenciales is a low limestone headland with sea caves cut into its base, more sailors' carvings on the rock, an isolated beach and Osprey Rock standing offshore where the birds nest. The track out is rough enough that few people make it. Boats came in here for shelter and the carvings record who waited. The area is sometimes called Pirate Caves locally, though the association with piracy is folklore rather than record.

What you actually see

  • The sea caves - the openings cut into the base of the bluff.
  • The rock carvings - more sailors' names and dates on the limestone.
  • Osprey Rock - the stack offshore where the birds nest.
  • The isolated beach - the sand below the headland with nobody on it.

When to go

December to April is the dry high season. The track is worse after rain. Ospreys nest through the winter and spring.

Honest expectations

The track out needs four wheel drive and is genuinely rough. There is no shade and no facilities. The caves flood at high water and should be timed with the tide.

Nearby

Chalk Sound is northeast, and Sapodilla Bay is east.
