Fafa is a small coral island in the lagoon north of Nuku'alofa, ringed by white sand with a reef around it and a single low-key resort of thatched fales under the trees. It is possible to walk right round the island in half an hour. Day visitors come out by boat for the beach and lunch. The water is shallow and clear and the reef starts close in. The lagoon north of Nuku'alofa holds a scatter of similar cays, and Fafa is simply the one that was developed.

When to go
May to October is the drier season. Cyclone season runs November to April. Boats run on a schedule and are cancelled in wind.
Honest expectations
It is a single resort operation and day visits require booking. Prices are high for Tonga. The island is very small.
