Khlong Lan falls in a single broad sheet of about ninety-five metres off a cliff into a wide shallow pool, and unlike most large Thai waterfalls it is reached by a level walk of a few hundred metres from the car park rather than a climb - which is why it draws visitors who would not attempt Erawan or Thi Lo Su. The pool at the base is swimmable and shallow at the edges, with spray reaching well back from the fall in the wet season. The park around it covers about 300 square kilometres of hill forest on the edge of the Western Forest Complex, with other falls and camping. Flow follows the season completely: strongest from July into November, thinning through the dry months, and by April the curtain narrows to strands down the rock face. Rocks around the pool are slick with algae and spray, and people are injured on them regularly.

What you actually see

  • The curtain - about ninety-five metres in a single broad sheet.
  • The short approach - a level walk of a few hundred metres from the car park.
  • The pool - wide and shallow at the edges, used for bathing.
  • The forest - hill country on the edge of the Western Forest Complex.

When to go

July to November for full flow; the dry season reduces it substantially. Weekdays are quieter than Thai weekends and holidays.

Honest expectations

Much reduced in the dry season. Rocks around the pool are slippery with algae and spray. Facilities are basic. Foreign entry fees are higher than Thai.

Nearby

Mae Wong National Park is west; Kamphaeng Phet historical park is east.
