Juming Museum

Ju Ming spent twelve years building this museum on a hillside near Jinshan and opened it in 1999 to hold work that had outgrown any gallery: the Taichi series of massive bronze and stone figures caught mid-movement, and the Living World series of soldiers, swimmers and crowds in painted steel. The pieces stand outdoors across eleven hectares of grass and woodland, which is how he wanted them seen, in weather and changing light.

When to go

March to November is the most comfortable. The museum closes on Mondays and in bad weather some areas shut. The north coast is wet and windy in winter.

Honest expectations

It is almost entirely outdoors and rain makes the visit unpleasant. The site is large with a lot of walking on grass. It is a long way from Taipei without a car.

Jinshan old street is nearby, and Dharma Drum Mountain is south.
