EntrySmall charge

Duoliang station closed to passengers in 2006 when the line was realigned, and the old platform was left on its bluff directly above the sea, with the track running along the edge and nothing between the rails and the Pacific but a drop and a strip of coast. Trains still pass. It has become a fixture of Taiwanese travel photography, and the village above has grown a row of stalls and viewpoints around it.

What you actually see

  • The platform - the disused station on a bluff with the sea directly below.
  • The passing trains - services still running through on the line.
  • The Pacific - open ocean and the coast running north and south.
  • The village stalls - coffee and food set up along the viewpoint above.

When to go

Year round; sunrise over the Pacific is the classic time and brings a crowd. Weekends are busy. Typhoon weather closes the viewpoint.

Honest expectations

It is a twenty-minute stop and the viewpoint is small and crowded. The station itself cannot be entered. Trains pass infrequently and waiting for one takes patience.

Nearby

Taimali is north, and Taitung city is beyond it.
