Trosa

Trosa is small, wooden and painted in the deep red that came from the Falun copper mine, laid out along a river that runs the last stretch to the Baltic between the houses, with jetties and rowing boats tied at the bottom of the gardens. The Swedish phrase Trosa vid varldens ande, Trosa at the end of the world, attaches to the town and is used affectionately - it sits at the end of its road, with no reason to pass through. The town burned in 1719 in the same Russian raids that hit the coast and was rebuilt on the old plan. It fills with second-home owners and boats in summer and empties in winter.

Background

Trosa is the seat of Trosa Municipality in Södermanland County; the municipality is made up of the towns of Trosa, Västerljung and Vagnhärad. In 2010 the town had 5,027 inhabitants and the municipality 11,417, and by the end of 2020 the town had grown to 7,295 on 3.60 square kilometres. It was the second fastest growing town in Sweden in 2008, and in 2011 it was ranked third for business climate in the country. Its nickname, Världens ände, means The World's End.
