Teleborg Castle

Count Fredrik Bonde built Teleborg, finished in 1900, for his second wife Anna Koskull and gave it to her as a wedding gift - the story is the reason most people know the building. The architects August Lindvall and Harald Boklund of Malmö worked in a National Romantic idiom with towers, a stepped gable and heavy stone at the base, which reads as medieval at a distance and is nothing of the kind close up. He died in 1909 and she in 1917; the family sold it to the town of Vaxjo in 1964, and it now runs as a hotel and conference house, with the ground floor rooms accessible when nothing is booked in them. The grounds run down to Lake Trummen and connect to the paths around the university.

Before you go

It is a working hotel, so interiors are often closed to visitors. There is no museum. The building is much smaller than photographs suggest. Grounds are modest.
