Moja

Moja is long and low with a road running its length between four or five hamlets - Berg, Langvik, Ramsmora - and no cars for visitors, so people walk or hire bicycles. Strawberries have been the island's crop for over a century and the fields are still worked, sold from stalls in season. Fishing was the older living, and the harbours keep the boat sheds and the wooden houses that went with it. There is a nature reserve at the north end with old forest and shore meadows. The whole island is quieter than Sandhamn or Grinda, without the sailing scene, which is why people who know the archipelago pick it.

June to August; services shrink hard outside. A full day or overnight.

Honest expectations

The boat takes two to three hours each way. There are few shops and restaurants and they close early. No cars means walking or cycling in whatever weather arrives. Accommodation is limited and books out.
