Grinda

Grinda is owned by the Archipelago Foundation and managed as a nature reserve, which means it has not been parcelled into private plots the way many islands were - it is meadow, pine and oak woodland, rock shore and a few buildings, with paths crossing it and swimming coves round the edges. There is a wardshus in a 1906 villa, a hostel, a campsite and cabins, and a small shop in season. The crossing from Stockholm takes an hour and a half to two hours depending on the boat, which puts it in the middle band of the archipelago: further out than Vaxholm, much closer than Sandhamn. Two piers serve it, north and south.

June to August, when boats and services run. A full day or overnight.

Things to know

Boats take up to two hours each way and are far less frequent out of season. Facilities close for winter. Accommodation is limited and books up. There is no shop worth the name outside summer.
