Halle- and Hunneberg

Halleberg and Hunneberg are two table mountains standing about a hundred and fifty metres over the plain by the Gota river, capped with diabase that gives them near-vertical cliffs on all sides and flat plateaus of forest and bog on top. The elk population is dense and the royal elk hunt has been held on Hunneberg most years since 1885, which is why the Kungajaktmuseet Alvsborg, a museum on elk and hunting, sits on the hill. Boulder fields lie at the cliff feet and paths run round the rims with viewpoints over the valley. Sheer drops are unfenced in places. Guided elk safaris run in the evenings in summer.

Honest expectations

Elk sightings are not guaranteed on any safari. Cliff edges are unfenced - care is needed. The plateaus are boggy in places. The museum keeps seasonal hours.
