Gamla Linkoping

From 1946 Linkoping began moving buildings out of its centre rather than demolishing them, and about ninety houses were re-erected here on a laid-out street plan with cobbles, squares and gaslights. The distinguishing thing is that it was never made a museum in the ordinary sense: people rent and live in the flats, businesses trade from the shops, and there is a chocolate maker, a printer, a bank museum and cafes working in the buildings. Valla open-air area next to it has farm buildings, animals and a small railway. It is free to walk into and does not close, though the shops keep their own hours.

May to September for the businesses; the streets are always open. Two to three hours.

Honest expectations

Shops keep short and seasonal hours, and much is closed in winter. The buildings are not on their original sites. It is aimed partly at families. Some interiors are private homes.
