Eriksberg Nature Reserve

Eriksberg was fenced in the 1930s as a game park and covers around nine hundred and fifty hectares of coastal woodland, meadow and shore, inside which European bison, red deer, fallow deer, mouflon and wild boar move without further enclosure. The bison herd descends from the small group the species was rebuilt from after it went extinct in the wild in the 1920s. Visitors drive a marked route in their own car or take a guided safari bus, and the animals are habituated enough to be seen at close range, particularly at feeding. There is a hotel and restaurant on the estate and a stretch of Baltic shore inside the fence.

Things to know

It is a fenced enclosure, not wild country, and some visitors mind the distinction. Animals are not guaranteed on any given drive. The ticket is not cheap. Winter opening is reduced.
