Bjorkborn Manor

Nobel bought the Bofors works in 1894 and with it this manor, and he spent his last summers here - it mattered legally as well as personally, because having a Swedish residence helped establish that his will should be executed under Swedish law, which is how the prize came to be administered from Stockholm. He died in San Remo in 1896. The house is furnished as it was, with his rooms, and a laboratory has been set up in the annexe with apparatus of the kind he used. The exhibition covers the will, the disputes that followed it and the founding of the prizes. The Bofors industrial area is next door.

Practical notes

Opening is short and mostly by guided tour. Tours are largely in Swedish. The house is small. Karlskoga is an industrial town with limited draw otherwise.
