Tyrol Cot Heritage Village

Tyrol Cot was built in 1854 and became the home of Sir Grantley Adams, the first premier of Barbados, and the house is kept with the family's furniture and papers in place. In the grounds a set of chattel houses has been assembled into a village: the movable timber houses working people built so they could be lifted and carried when tenancy changed, each set up as a workshop or shop. Grantley Adams led the country into internal self-government and briefly headed the West Indies Federation.
