Bergman Center Faro
A centre on the island where Ingmar Bergman lived and filmed for forty years, in a former school at Faro church.

Bergman first came to Faro in 1960 scouting locations for Through a Glass Darkly, decided he had found the landscape he wanted, and eventually built a house at Hammars and lived on the island until his death in 2007. Several films were shot here, and Faro Document recorded the islanders themselves. The centre opened in 2012 in the old school by the church, with a permanent exhibition on his work and the island, changing shows, a cinema, a shop and a cafe. Bergman Week is held each summer. His own house is not part of the centre and is run separately as a residency, so it is not generally open.

Honest expectations
His house is not open to visitors. The season is short and Bergman Week fills the island. Reaching Faro means a ferry and then a drive. The exhibition is modest in scale.
