Palumeu

Palumeu sits where the Tapanahony and Palumeu rivers meet in the far south of Suriname, a village of Trio and Wayana people with a grass airstrip and no road anywhere near it, and a lodge run in partnership with the community takes visitors for forest walks, river trips and the climb up Kasikasima. The village keeps its own language, crafts and hunting and fishing practice alongside the visitor operation.

When to go

The dry seasons, February to April and August to November, are the practical windows. Flights are weather-dependent. High water changes what river trips are possible.

Honest expectations

Access is by charter flight only and packages are expensive. Visitors are guests in a living community, with rules on photography and movement. Facilities are simple and supplies all arrive by air.
