Camp Nou opened in 1957 and was for decades the largest stadium in Europe with a capacity near 99,000. A rebuild under the Espai Barca project began in 2023, demolishing and reconstructing the tiers to reach around 105,000 with a roof, during which the club played at the Olympic stadium on Montjuic and the tour experience was reduced or relocated. The permanent draw is the museum, which holds the club's trophies, material on its role as a symbol during the Franco period when Catalan expression was suppressed, and a large section on Messi, who came through the academy and spent twenty-one years at the club. Normal tours cover the pitch, tunnel, dressing rooms and press area when construction allows.

What you actually see

  • The club museum - trophies and the club's political and cultural history.
  • The rebuild - construction toward a 105,000-capacity stadium with a roof.
  • The Messi section - material on his years at the club.
  • The pitch and tunnel - accessible on tours when works permit.

When to go

Year-round; what the tour includes depends on the state of construction, which has shifted repeatedly, so checking the current offer before booking is essential. Match days close or restrict the tour.

Honest expectations

The rebuild has changed and reduced the tour repeatedly, and visitors have arrived to find much less than advertised. Tickets are expensive and non-refundable. Completion dates for the project have moved several times.

Nearby

Les Corts and the Diagonal are alongside; Montjuic and the Olympic stadium lie southeast.
