Jebel Kujur

Jebel Kujur rises on the western edge of Juba, a rocky hill of granite boulders and scrub that is the nearest high ground to the capital and the standard climb from it, taking around an hour up a rough path. From the top Juba, the White Nile running through it and the country beyond are laid out. The name refers to the spiritual practitioners traditionally associated with the hill.

When to go

December to March is the dry season and the path is best. The rains from April make the rock slippery. Early morning is coolest for the climb.

Good to know

The path is rough and unmarked and the rock is loose in places. There is no shade and water must be carried. Local advice on timing and access should be taken.
