Uepi Island

Uepi is a long narrow island forming part of the barrier that encloses Marovo Lagoon, with the lagoon on one side and, on the other, a reef wall that drops away into deep ocean within swimming distance of the beach. A small resort occupies it. Sharks, rays and pelagics work the wall and the passages at either end, and the whole thing is reachable without a boat.

What you actually see

• The wall - a reef drop-off into deep water within swimming distance of shore.
• The lagoon side - shallow protected water on the inner shore.
• The passages - the channels at either end where current draws fish in.
• The barrier position - an island forming part of Marovo's outer reef.

When to go

May to October is the drier season with the best visibility. The wet season brings squalls. The resort closes for a period each year.

Honest expectations

Access is a flight to Seghe and then a boat, both weather-dependent. It is a single resort and packages are expensive. There is nothing else on the island.
