Bird Paradise

Bird Paradise opened in 2023 at Mandai, taking over from the Jurong Bird Park which had run since 1971, and its organising idea is the walk-through aviary: eight of them, each built around a habitat and region, from African wetland to Southeast Asian rainforest to Australian outback, with visitors inside the enclosure rather than looking through mesh. Around three thousand five hundred birds of some four hundred species live in them.

What you actually see

• The walk-through aviaries - eight large habitats entered rather than viewed through mesh.
• The Kuok Group Wings of Asia - the Southeast Asian aviary, the largest of them.
• The breeding programmes - conservation work on threatened Asian songbirds.
• The flight presentations - free-flight shows through the day.

When to go

Year round; early morning is coolest and the birds most active. School holidays and weekends are extremely busy. Booking online is cheaper and avoids queues.

Honest expectations

It is expensive, and the Mandai parks are priced separately with combination tickets pushed hard. The site is large and hot with long walks between aviaries. Getting there without a car means a shuttle from Khatib.

Nearby

River Wonders and the Zoo are beside it, and Upper Seletar is south.
