The Tingi hills rise in northeastern Sierra Leone near the Guinean border, a range of granite domes and wooded slopes with Sankanbiriwa, the highest, standing over eighteen hundred metres. The forest on the lower slopes holds chimpanzees and the summit rock is bare. The climb is done from the villages below with guides, taking most of a day, and very few people make it. The range is proposed as a protected area but has not yet been formally gazetted.

When to go
November to April is the dry season and the practical window. The rains from May to October make the climb dangerous. Harmattan haze can cut the view.
Honest expectations
The climb is steep with exposed rock and needs a guide from the villages. Access roads are rough and slow. There are no facilities of any kind.
