Senegalese wrestling, lutte avec frappe, is the country's dominant spectator sport, bigger than football in audience and money, and the Arène Nationale at Pikine was built for it and opened in 2018. Bouts combine wrestling with bare-fist striking, and each one is preceded by long ritual preparation: drumming, dancing, charms and libations that can take longer than the fight itself, which is often over in under a minute. Honest expectations

Tickets are bought through local contacts rather than online and prices swing enormously with the card. The arena is on the eastern side of the conurbation and getting back late needs arranging. It is loud, crowded and long, with far more waiting than fighting.
