Savoyard sits on the southwest shore of Saint-Pierre, a scatter of houses behind a beach of shingle and coarse sand with a pond just inland and the open sea in front. It is one of the few places on the island where the shore is easy to reach by road. The water is very cold and the wind comes in off the Atlantic without anything to break it. A road runs down to the shore and there is space to leave a car at the end of it.

What you actually see

  • The shingle beach - stone and coarse sand along the shore.
  • The hamlet - the houses standing behind the beach.
  • The pond - the water body just inland of the shore.
  • The open Atlantic - the sea with nothing between it and the beach.

When to go

June to September is the workable season. Fog is common through the summer. The wind is constant in any month.

Honest expectations

Swimming is realistically out of the question; the water is cold enough to be dangerous. There are no facilities. Wind and fog make it uncomfortable much of the time.

Nearby

Saint-Pierre town is northeast, and the Diamant trail is east.
