The Pearl Island

The Pearl is a reclaimed island off Doha's northern coast, built from the mid-2000s on what were pearl diving beds, laid out as a set of districts around marinas with apartment towers, townhouses and retail frontage. Porto Arabia is the main marina with a promenade of shops and restaurants running around it, and Qanat Quartier is built in a Venetian idiom with painted buildings and canals.

What you actually see

When to go

November to March is when the promenades are usable through the day. Summer heat confines everything indoors. Evenings are busiest year round.

Honest expectations

It is a retail and residential development and the appeal is limited if shopping and dining are not the point. Parking is difficult at busy times. Summer daytime heat makes the promenades unusable.
