Moszna Castle
A palace with ninety-nine turrets and three architectural styles, built by a coal family and now a hotel and museum.

Moszna is the most extravagant house in Silesia and one of the strangest in Poland: a baroque core of the eighteenth century onto which the Tiele-Winckler family, who had made a fortune in coal and zinc, grafted a neo-Gothic east wing after a fire in 1896 and a neo-Renaissance west wing in 1912-1914, so the three styles sit end to end in one building. It has ninety-nine turrets and around three hundred and sixty-five rooms. From 1972 it served as a convalescent home and then a centre for treating neuroses, which has since moved to another building nearby, and the castle is now a hotel, museum and events venue. The park around it runs to about a hundred hectares with rhododendrons and azaleas that flower in May, which is when most people come.
History
The central baroque palace was badly damaged by fire on the night of 2 April 1896 and rebuilt the same year by Franz Hubert von Tiele-Winckler, who extended it; the neo-Gothic east wing and an orangery were finished by 1900, and the west wing followed in 1912-1914. The Tiele-Winckler family lived here from 1866, the German Emperor Wilhelm II hunted here in 1911 and again the following year, and from 1972 the castle served as a convalescent home (Wikipedia, Moszna Castle).

What to expect
Part of the complex is still a working hospital and is not open. Interiors are seen on a guided route with limited rooms. May weekends are crowded. The village has almost no other services.
