Getting thereAt San Jose on Tinian; walking distance from the village
EntryFree

Tachogna at San Jose is Tinian's main beach, a stretch of white sand on the sheltered western side of the island with shallow calm water and shade trees along the back, and it sits within walking distance of the village. Next to it is Taga Beach with its cliff jump. Tinian has around three thousand people, so even the main beach is usually close to empty. Tinian's western side faces Saipan across a channel a few kilometres wide, visible from the beach on clear days.

What you actually see

  • The white sand - the island's main beach on the sheltered side.
  • The calm shallow water - conditions suited to easy swimming.
  • The shade trees - the cover along the back of the beach.
  • The emptiness - a main beach on an island of three thousand people.

When to go

December to June is the drier season. Typhoon season runs July to November. Weekends bring some local visitors.

Honest expectations

Facilities are minimal. Getting to Tinian means a short flight from Saipan and services are limited. Sargassum and debris wash up at times.

Nearby

Taga Beach is alongside, and the House of Taga is nearby.
