St Barnabas Chapel

St Barnabas was built in 1880 for the Melanesian Mission, which had its headquarters and training school on Norfolk Island for around half a century, and it is a substantial stone church for a place this size. The windows were made by Morris and Company to designs by Edward Burne-Jones, the inlaid work in the nave was done by Solomon Islands students, and the whole building is a mixture of English Gothic and Pacific craft.

When to go

September to May is warmer. The chapel is open through the day most of the year. Morning light comes through the eastern windows.
