The Motu sea track runs from the road on Niue's eastern side down through coastal forest to the reef, one of the network of marked sea tracks that give access to the coast around the island, each cut and maintained by the village it belongs to. This one comes out on a stretch of raised reef with pools and the open Pacific beyond. The forest on the way is thick and shaded.

What you actually see

  • The marked track - one of the village-maintained routes to the coast.
  • The coastal forest - the thick shaded growth on the descent.
  • The raised reef - the rock platform the track comes out on.
  • The open Pacific - the ocean beyond with nothing in between.

When to go

May to October is the dry season and the tracks are firmer. Swell makes the reef platform dangerous. Cyclone season runs November to April.

Honest expectations

The reef platform is sharp and dangerous in swell. Tracks are muddy after rain. There are no facilities and no phone signal at the coast.

Nearby

Liku is above, and Vaikona is north.
