Mont Koghi

The Koghi massif rises directly behind Nouméa to just over a thousand metres, and it is wet enough on its upper slopes to carry humid forest with tree ferns and epiphytes, in sharp contrast to the dry scrub of the coast twenty kilometres away. A network of marked trails runs from the road head, a via ferrata and a canopy course operate there, and an old chalet serves food. Cloud sits on the tops much of the time.

When to go

April to November is the drier season for walking. Cloud and rain are frequent on the tops in any season. Weekends bring crowds from the city.

Honest expectations

Trails are muddy and slippery in most conditions. Cloud often closes the views entirely. The road up is narrow and winding.
