Jokin Cliffs

At Jokin on the northern end of Lifou the limestone drops around forty metres straight into clear water, and a concrete stairway runs down the face to a platform at the bottom where the sea is deep and calm enough to swim and snorkel. The clifftop above gives a long view along the coast and out over the water, and the village church stands nearby. Access runs through customary land and a small fee is collected.

• The clifftop view - the coast running away in both directions.

When to go

April to November is the dry cooler season. Late afternoon light is best on the cliffs. Swell can make the platform unusable.

Honest expectations

The stairway is steep and the climb back up is hard work. A customary fee is collected and the land is privately held. There are no facilities at the bottom.
