Ijuw

Ijuw on the east coast is among the smallest of Nauru's fourteen districts by population, a stretch of houses and coconut between the ring road and the shore with the mined interior rising behind it. There is a church, a few houses and very little else. The reef flat in front is wide and the coast here is quieter than the western side where most of the island lives. The whole district can be crossed in a few minutes on the road that runs through it.

When to go

March to October is the drier season. November to February brings westerly weather. Mornings are cooler along the road.

Honest expectations

There is nothing built for visitors and no reason to stop beyond seeing the place. Facilities are non-existent. This is a residential district and people live here.
