Jack Boy Hill

Jack Boy Hill sits on the eastern side of Montserrat at the edge of what may be entered, and from the viewing platform there you look south down the valley where pyroclastic flows from Soufriere Hills came off the mountain and buried the old W H Bramble airport. The runway is under the deposit. There is a telescope, a picnic area and a barbecue, and on a clear day the volcano itself is in view.

• The telescope - the fixed viewer on the platform.
• The volcano view - Soufriere Hills to the south on a clear day.

When to go

December to April is the dry season and clearer. Cloud covers the volcano often in any month. Mornings are usually clearest.

Honest expectations

The volcano is frequently in cloud and the view is not guaranteed. The site is at the edge of restricted ground and the boundary must be respected. Facilities are basic.
