When to go

The Monaco Grand Prix, held in late May, is the spectacular but hugely busy and expensive highlight, when the principality fills with fans and glamour; book far ahead. Outside the race, the harbour and its yachts are a dazzling sight year-round, with the mild, sunny months from April to October the loveliest for enjoying the waterfront and Riviera atmosphere.

Honest expectations

The Grand Prix is an extraordinary spectacle but comes with sky-high prices, huge crowds and long-booked accommodation and grandstands, so experiencing the race in comfort is a serious splurge, though some free or cheaper vantage points exist. Outside race season, the harbour is simply a glamorous marina of superyachts to admire. As the setting for the world's most famous street race and a dazzling display of Riviera wealth and glamour, though, Port Hercule is quintessential Monaco.
