Suta de Movile

Suta de Movile, the hundred hills, is a stretch of ground above the Prut covered in several hundred rounded mounds, some of them a dozen metres high, spread across around a thousand hectares. The name undercounts them. Their origin is argued: landslip on an old shoreline is the usual explanation, though other readings have been proposed. Steppe vegetation grows on the mounds and the flowering in spring is the reason to come.

When to go

April to June is the flowering season and the best time. Summer dries the vegetation off. Winter and wet weather make the tracks difficult.

Honest expectations

There is no marked path or interpretation and the site takes finding. The mounds are less dramatic on the ground than from the air. Tracks are difficult after rain.
