Chișinău

Chișinău, the capital of Moldova, is one of Europe's most low-key and least-visited capitals, a relaxed, leafy city known for its abundant parks and tree-lined boulevards. History

Chișinău was founded in 1436 as a monastery village in the Principality of Moldavia. The origin of the name is unclear: one theory joins the archaic Romanian chișla, "spring", with nouă, "new", after a small spring at the corner of Pușkin and Albișoara streets (Wikipedia, Chișinău).
