Lagunas de Chacahua

Chacahua asks for a boat ride and pays it back in emptiness. The national park protects a chain of coastal lagoons behind the Oaxacan dunes, and the classic approach threads them: colectivo lanchas from Zapotalito cross open water and slip into mangrove tunnels where herons lift and crocodiles idle, emerging at Chacahua village - a sand-street settlement of the Costa Chica's Afro-Mexican communities, split by the channel where lagoon meets Pacific. The far bar holds the reason surfers whisper about it: a long right point break peeling along the river mouth with a fraction of Escondido's crowd, plus kilometres of beach that stay footprint-free by breakfast.
