Lagunas de Chacahua

Chacahua asks for a boat ride and pays it back in emptiness. The national park protects a chain of coastal lagoons behind the Oaxacan dunes, and the classic approach threads them: colectivo lanchas from Zapotalito cross open water and slip into mangrove tunnels where herons lift and crocodiles idle, emerging at Chacahua village - a sand-street settlement of the Costa Chica's Afro-Mexican communities, split by the channel where lagoon meets Pacific. The far bar holds the reason surfers whisper about it: a long right point break peeling along the river mouth with a fraction of Escondido's crowd, plus kilometres of beach that stay footprint-free by breakfast. The rest of the program is elemental - cabanas and hammocks over the sand, fish grilled at family comedores, the crocodile conservation station with its hatchling pens, and night boat rides when the lagoon's bioluminescence fires. Electricity is solar-and-generator, signal thin, prices honest. It is the coast the highway forgot, kept that way by the water between.

Rustic is the deal: simple cabanas, cash only, mosquitoes at dusk. The beach's currents demand the same respect as everywhere on this coast. Logistics run on lagoon time - build slack.
