Aur Atoll

Aur lies in the Ratak chain not far north of Majuro, an atoll of around forty islets around a clear lagoon with reef in better condition than the water near the capital, because there is almost no population pressure on it. A few hundred people live on two of the islets. Traditional weaving and canoe work continue and the lagoon is used for fishing rather than anything else. The atoll lies close enough to Majuro that a boat crossing is possible in settled weather, though flights are more reliable.

When to go

December to April is the drier season. Flights and boats are irregular. The wet season brings heavier weather.

Honest expectations

Transport is irregular and getting stuck is normal. There is no accommodation beyond community arrangements. Supplies must be carried.
