Lata Kinjang

Lata Kinjang is the fall you see from the north-south expressway near Tapah, a white line down the forested face of the Titiwangsa range that is often quoted at around eight hundred and fifty metres of total drop, which makes it one of the tallest in the country - though it is a long stepped cascade rather than a single plunge, so no one view takes in more than a fraction of it. At the base there is a developed picnic area with pools, stalls and a suspension bridge across the river. A concrete stairway and then a rough trail climb the side towards the upper sections and a viewpoint, which is a hard sweaty hour or more and gets much quieter the higher you go. An Orang Asli village sits nearby and the surrounding land is forest reserve.

What you actually see

• A long stepped cascade - roughly 850 metres of total drop down the range face.
• The expressway view - the white thread visible from the highway below.
• A picnic base - pools, stalls and a suspension bridge over the river.
• A steep climb up the side - stairs then rough trail towards the upper falls.

When to go

All year; avoid rain upstream. Half a day.

Honest expectations

You never see the whole fall at once. The base area is crowded and littered at weekends. The upper trail is steep, slippery and unmaintained. Water levels rise fast after rain.
