Mauren

Mauren lies in Liechtenstein's far north near the Austrian border, a village whose main feature is the Weiherwald and the Wiesengarten, a landscape park laid out in and around former gravel workings with ponds, meadow planting, sculpture and paths. The parish church stands above the village. It is a small place and the park is what it has made of itself. The municipality includes the hamlet of Schaanwald on the Austrian border, which is one of the country's main road crossings. Mauren itself sits on the last rise before the plain flattens toward the Rhine.

What you actually see

• The landscape park - ponds and meadow laid out in old gravel workings.
• The sculpture - the works placed through the park grounds.

When to go

April to October is when the meadow planting is at its best. Autumn is quieter and still walkable. Winter closes down most of it.

Honest expectations

The park is modest and an hour or two covers it. The village itself has little else. Facilities are limited.
