The Libassa sanctuary near Marshall takes in animals confiscated from the bushmeat and pet trade in Liberia: chimpanzees, pangolins, duiker, monkeys and civets, held in enclosures in coastal forest with the aim of releasing what can be released. It is one of very few facilities of its kind in the country. Guided visits explain the trade the sanctuary exists to respond to.

When to go
November to April is the dry season. The sanctuary keeps set hours and visits are guided. The heavy rains from May make the road difficult.
Before you go
It is a rescue facility rather than a wildlife park and animals are visible only when they choose to be. Funding is limited and facilities are basic. Visits must go through the guided arrangement.
