Fahaheel and Al Kout

Fahaheel is a town on the coast south of Kuwait City, historically a pearling and fishing settlement and now a busy commercial centre with a large South Asian population, and Al Kout on its waterfront is a market complex built in a traditional idiom with a fort-like frontage, souq alleys, a fish market and a marina. The corniche runs along the sea in front of it. Al Kout takes its name from the small fort that stood on this shore, and the complex was designed to echo it. The town behind has grown into one of the largest urban centres outside the capital.

When to go

November to March is the comfortable season. Evenings are busiest at the complex. Summer heat is extreme.

Honest expectations

The complex is a modern shopping development in traditional dress rather than historic fabric. It is crowded at weekends and in the evenings. Parking is difficult.
