Robin's Bay is the stretch of Saint Mary coast where the road runs out, a run of dark-sand coves, headlands and river mouths with a handful of small guesthouses and no resorts. Behind it, tracks lead through bush to Kwaaman falls and a set of cascades on the river, and the coastal walk out to Strawberry Fields and the Flat Bridge area takes a couple of hours. It is one of the few coasts on the north side with almost nothing built on it.

What you actually see

  • The dark-sand coves - a run of small beaches between headlands.
  • The waterfalls - cascades in the bush behind the coast, reached on guided walks.
  • The coastal walk - a route along the shore past headlands and river mouths.
  • The absence of resorts - a north-coast stretch with almost no development.

When to go

December to April is the drier season and the best for the walks. Hurricane season from June to November brings swell and washes the beaches about. The bush trails are muddy after rain.

Honest expectations

There are no facilities beyond the guesthouses and little to do beyond walk and swim. Trails to the falls are unmarked and a local guide is effectively necessary. The sea here is rough and there are no lifeguards.

Nearby

Annotto Bay is west, and Oracabessa is further east along the coast.
