Croydon in the Mountains

Croydon is a working farm of around a hundred and thirty acres in the Saint James hills growing pineapple, coffee and citrus, and it runs a half-day tour through the fields with fruit tasting, a look at coffee processing and lunch. The estate is also the birthplace of Samuel Sharpe, the Baptist deacon who led the 1831 rebellion in western Jamaica and is now a national hero. The drive up through the hills is part of the visit.

When to go

December to April is the drier season and the most comfortable. Tours run on set days and must be booked. Pineapple is available year round but peaks in the spring.

Honest expectations

Tours run to a fixed schedule on limited days and cannot be joined on arrival. The road up from Montego Bay is long and rough in places. The visit is a farm tour rather than a historic site.
