Ytri-Tunga

Ytri-Tunga is a farm on the southern shore of Snaefellsnes with a beach of pale sand and low rocks offshore, and it is the most reliable place on the peninsula to see seals: harbour seals haul out on those rocks to rest and moult, in largest numbers in June and July, and grey seals appear too. They are usually visible from the beach without any need to approach, which is the arrangement that keeps working - people who walk out towards them push them into the water and end the viewing for everyone. There is a car park at the farm and a short walk down.

Things to know

Seals are wild and there are days with none. Approaching them is disturbance and is asked against. Binoculars make the difference. The beach is exposed and the parking small.
