Museum of Prophecies

Spakonuhof takes its subject from Thordis, a woman recorded in the medieval sources as living in this district in the tenth century and known as a prophetess - one of the few named women of that period whose reputation rested on foresight rather than family. The exhibition sets out what is known and what is legend, alongside material on divination traditions in Iceland more generally: runes, dreams, cards and reading from bones. A fortune teller is available for readings on site, which is either the point of the visit or the part to skip. The mountain above the village, Spakonufell, is named for her.

This is a small local museum rather than a scholarly institution, and it mixes history with entertainment openly. Hours are seasonal and short. Skagastrond is a long detour for one exhibition; it works best combined with the Skagi peninsula drive.
