Lysuholslaug

Lysuholslaug is fed by a mineral spring rather than ordinary geothermal water, and the difference is visible: the water is naturally carbonated, heavily mineralised and green, with algae growing on the sides because the pool is not chlorinated - treating it would destroy what makes it different. Regulars claim it does good things for skin, which is the usual claim about such water and is not something to take further than that. It is a small community pool with a hot tub beside it, open in summer, in a farming area on the south side of Snaefellsnes with the peninsula's mountains behind.

Before you go

The green water and slippery sides put some visitors off - it looks unclean and is not. Opening is seasonal and hours are limited. Facilities are basic. Claims about health benefits are folk belief, not medicine.
