Drangurinn i Drangshlid

Drangurinn is a huge block of rock that fell from the cliffs above Drangshlid and came to rest on the slope, and generations of the farm built turf and stone outbuildings against and into it, using the rock itself as one wall and the overhangs as roofs. The result looks like houses growing out of a boulder. Folklore made it a dwelling of hidden people, and another story attaches the outlaw Grettir to it. The buildings are not a museum: this is a working farm, the structures are private, and visitors are expected to keep to the track and view from outside rather than wander among them.

Honest expectations

This is private property and there is no visitor infrastructure at all - no path, no sign, no toilet. Keeping to the track and not entering the buildings is the condition of it staying accessible. Parking is on the roadside.
