Bride's Pool

Bride's Pool sits in a wooded valley in the Plover Cove country park where a stream drops over a series of ledges into deep green pools, reached on a short nature trail from a roadside picnic area with a viewing platform above the main fall. The name comes from a story of a bride whose sedan chair slipped as it was carried across the stream on her wedding day, a legend told at every waterfall of the kind in the region. Upstream the Mirror Pool falls are reached on a rougher path, and the wider trail continues toward Wu Kau Tang and the ridge. The valley is one of the shadier walks in the New Territories.

When to go

April to October, when the stream has water; the falls reduce to a trickle in the dry winter months. Two to three hours. Weekends bring picnic crowds and barbecue smoke.

Things to know

Swimming here is prohibited and dangerous. The stream is weak in winter and the falls disappoint. Weekend barbecue crowds fill the site. Public transport runs mainly at weekends.
