Pulhapanzak Waterfall

The Río Lindo drops about forty-three metres over a rock lip at Pulhapanzak, and the site has grown into the most visited waterfall in Honduras: gardens and picnic ground above, viewpoints down the side, and a guided scramble that takes you along the rock behind the curtain and into the cave-like space under the water. That trip is wet, loud and genuinely disorienting, and it is what people come for. Zip lines run across the gorge above the falls.

When to go

November to April is the drier season, when the scramble runs most reliably. High water from the rains makes the behind-the-falls route unsafe and it is closed. Weekends bring crowds from San Pedro Sula.

Things to know

The scramble is genuinely rough: slippery rock, strong water and a guide holding your arm in places. It is not for weak swimmers or anyone unsteady. The site is busy at weekends and holidays and prices for each activity stack up.

Lake Yojoa is just south, and Cerro Azul Meambar rises on the eastern side of the lake.
